“…Because you have not properly recognized fear as nothing, you have not properly recognized love as everything.” …ACOL
Whether any of us believe it, accept it or agree with it matters not. The truth is true and nothing else is true. Everything that lies outside the truth is false even though you may believe it to be true. Whatever you believe to be true is true for you. But what you believe to be true may not be true for me and vice versa, what I believe to be true may not necessarily be true for you.
That’s the leading cause of the ills and suffering of this world. We each live in our own separate little worlds which we have made. From within these separate little worlds we continue to create our own illusionary realities as we listen to our egos’ instructions telling us what truth is and what reality is supposed to be.
“Everything real is of God. Nothing unreal exists.” …ACOL

Outside of Love nothing exists, therefore, everything that’s not of Love is an illusion. That’s why the world as we see it doesn’t really exist. It’s a world the ego has made and the ego knows nothing about anything that’s not wrapped up in fear.
Fear never was, is not now, nor ever will be of God. And so it’s unreal and as the above quote reminds us, nothing unreal exists. That includes this world which we’ve made based on the fears of our ego-minds.
We’ve each created our own separate little worlds from what we believe to be the truth. And it’s these separate little worlds combined that make the world of illusions, hatred, anger, disarray, negativity, loneliness, depression, sickness, death and every other negative aspect you can think of.
It will never change until we get tired of living in hell and choose to shift our thinking to thoughts of unity instead of those that promote more separation. Unifying thoughts can only come from the heart, which is the Home of Love. Love is the only Power that can unify, everything else separates because everything else is an illusion.
“Love is not something you do. It is what you are. To continue to identify love incorrectly is to continue to be unable to identify your Self.” …ACOL

A Course in Miracles tells us that we are prisoners of this world. In other words, we’re prisoners of our own thoughts. For this world is the effect of our own upside down thinking.
This upside down thinking leads us to believe that the world is the cause and our experiences here are its effects. But that’s not so. It’s just the opposite. Our upside down thinking is the cause and the world is its effects.
Upside down thinking always originates in the mind which is the stronghold of the ego. In its separated state the mind cannot access thoughts of unity, truth and Love, it can only access illusionary thoughts that are opposed to any kind of unity.
“Every living being has a heart. Let us define heart as the center of being, that place from which all feeling arises.” …ACOL

The mind is the home of the ego while the heart is the home of Love or better said, your true Self – the Christ in you.
As the second ACOL quote above says: Love is not something you do. It is what you are. Therefore, all thoughts of unity, truth and Love originate from your true Self, or as we’ll continue to say, the heart.
The mind knows nothing of Love because it works from logic. It cannot accept that which it can’t decipher through the lenses of logic and understanding. Love cannot be accessed with logic or understanding therefore, It cannot be accessed by the mind. This is why we’re told that Love cannot be taught but only recognized.
Only the mind can, or needs to, learn. The heart already knows. How could it not know if, as we’re told, It’s the center of being? To recognize anything is to have known it prior to the recognition. The heart is capable of recognizing Love because Love is being, the only being there is or ever will be. Therefore, the heart as the center of being is the Home of Love, the very Dwelling Place of God.
“It is precisely the inability of your true Self to forget that gives you hope of learning to recognize love…” …ACOL

Love has no attributes but it does have effects and by these effects shall you eventually remember what you are. As you begin to listen more to your heart you’ll begin to recognize that which the ego has forgotten. The more you recognize Love’s effects the less influence the ego will have over you.
Every time you recognize beauty in something or someone you’re recognizing Love’s effect. Every time you have thoughts of peace you’re recognizing Love’s effect. Every time you feel compassion for another sentient being you’re recognizing Love’s effect. Every time you see God’s handiwork in creation you’re recognizing Love’s effect. Every time you have a thought that says you are not a physical body you’re recognizing Love’s effect. The list of Love’s effects is as endless as creation itself. They roll on and on into infinity, as Jesus reminds us: “Creation is love’s effect, as are you.”
“Think not that love can look on misery and see love there. Love looks not on misery at all.” …ACOL

You cannot make misery less so by joining with it. You cannot make a sick person well by joining in the sickness. You cannot make a depressed person happy by becoming depressed yourself.
As A Course in Miracles tells us, the mind is a very powerful creator. When you join with misery, sickness, depression or any other negative aspect you have to do so with the mind, for the heart, being the Home of Love, does not even see these things. When you join with any of these conditions the ego then simply uses the power of the mind to create more of the same.
Love can only look upon Its own likeness and create more of that which is like Itself. Love looks beyond misery and sees joy. Love looks beyond sickness and sees healing and health. Love looks beyond depression and sees happiness. Love looks beyond all negativity and sees only that which is like unto Itself.
It then invites the miserable, the sick, the depressed, the lonely, the downtrodden, the weak and all others who perceive themselves in need of any kind to join with It in looking beyond the flesh to recognize the Spirit. For it is the striving to maintain the separation and survival of the flesh that is the cause of all negativity and suffering.

“To believe God looks upon misery and responds with sympathy and concern and does not end the misery is to believe in a God who is compassionate as you are compassionate.” …ACOL
It should not be difficult to understand that God can not look upon anything without making it real. Therefore, God does not look upon anything the ego has made for the ego itself is an illusion and also the maker of illusions.
Misery can only be found where Love is absent. For Love and misery cannot co-exist, where one is the other cannot be. As long as the mind remains the home of the ego, it and the heart will remain separated. It’s the upside down thinking of the separated mind that causes all of humanity’s misery. Therefore, our greatest need during this physical experience is to unite the mind with the heart. This is a process that can be done only by dedicating our thoughts to unity instead of separation.
I’m going to close this post with a quote from Jesus as expressed in A Course of Love: “You think you would end misery if you could, beginning with your own, and yet you could no more end misery by making it real than could God.”
