“As you teach, so shall you learn.”   …ACIM

The above quote is taken from A Course in Miracles, and portrays a Truth that not many are ready to hear. Most people on this Earth are wrapped up in illusion and live their lives dwelling in, and learning from, the past.

No one can learn from the future, that’s guaranteed. The only learning that can take place by those whom the ego is paramount in their understanding of who they are is from past study and experiences. Because of this, learning can do no more than produce an extension of the past, which is perceived as the future. Therefore, at least ninety-eight percent of the people on earth are living in the past.

 “You see the flesh or recognize the Spirit.”   …ACIM

For those with eyes to see, the above quote contains the whole of all learning that’s possible to learn as we travel through this physical dimension. It matters not how much earthly education a person may have. It doesn’t make any  difference  how long he or she has been experiencing this so-called life. Until they can decipher the Truth contained in the above quote they have learned absolutely nothing.

They have learned absolutely nothing because there’s nothing else to learn. There’s no learning required to see the flesh, for that comes natural to all of us as soon as we’re old enough to use our senses. And it stays with us during our whole journey through this physical world of the ego. 

But the Spirit is a different ballgame, so to speak. No one can see the Spirit, It has to be recognized. And to recognize anything means that you have to be already familiar with it. And that’s the one and only lesson we need to learn. In fact, it’s the only thing that can be learned. There’s nothing else for us to learn in this world except to learn how to recognize our true Selves, for we and the Spirit are one and the same thing.

All the experiences you’ve ever experienced, every problem, every negative or positive emotion, all and every experience that has ever come into your awareness since you’ve been in time have been, and are, lessons. Learning is what your entire life has been about. 

And every lesson has been part of a Divine Calling to guide you to come to one conclusion of all teachings. They were, and are, designed to lead you back to your True Self and your True Home. In other words, every lesson ever given to you has been given to help you eventually recognize the Spirit. 

The ego is that part of your mind that has blinded your perception to reality. The ego is that part of your mind that causes you to see the flesh. The ego is that part of your mind that tells you that you and God are two different and separate beings. The ego is that part of your mind that blocks your awareness of Love and keeps you wondering if It truly exists. 

The ego is that bunch of thoughts that keep telling you that you are powerless and at the mercy of a big, cold, and uncaring world. In other words, the ego is that part of your mind that teaches you that you have done an impossible thing. It continually teaches you that you have separated yourself from your Source of Life. It teaches you that you have separated yourself from Love, which is the only reality in the entire Universe.  

“You are the learner here until you realize that you are Love.”    …ACOL

The opening quote I used for this post says, as you teach, so shall you learn. The Course also says, Teach only love, for that is what you are. And the above quote from A Course of Love implies we’ll always be trying to learn until we learn the only thing that can be learned, which is to recognize the Spirit.

As long as you place your belief in the ego you’ll see only flesh, or that which is physical. Once you can dislodge the belief in your ego as yourself you’ll finally remember what you are. You’ll remember, and therefore recognize, that your true Identity is Love. Or if you prefer, Spirit – for they are one and the same. 

“Within you is the light that will show you what love is…”    …ACOL

Love is always eager to share Itself. Love cannot share Itself in separation. Love can share Itself only in relationship. The “light” within you that will show you what Love is, is your relationship with your Self. You are always in a Relationship with God even though you are not always aware of this Relationship. You would not exist if you were not in a Relationship with God, for God is your Source of Life. God is so willing to show Himself to you. 

God, and therefore, Love, will not be revealed to you through so-called, learned wisdom. Love will not be shown to you by repeating sad stories about yourself. Love will not be part of your awareness while you talk about suffering and past hurts. Love will not make Itself known while you dwell on sickness and negative issues.  

These things are all aspects of separation, they are thoughts which take up residence in the mind,  the home of the ego, which is the source of fear. Love dwells not in the mind, but in the Heart, the very center of your Being. Love cannot be learned, therefore, learned wisdom will never lead you to your Self. Love is your true Identity, and It can only be recognized. It will never be recognized by the mind, which is the domain of all earthly learning. 

If you’re ever to recognize Love, and therefore, Spirit, and your Self, then you must form a relationship between your mind and the Heart. For the Heart is Home to the Divine, the Abode of Spirit, the Dwelling Place of Love and the Source of all loving and joyous thoughts.

The fearful  and negative thoughts of the mind cannot enter the Heart, which is the Home of Love. By joining the mind and the Heart through relationship you’ll begin to think more loving, joyful and happy thoughts.

Listening to the Heart will prompt you to begin telling a new story. A story about health instead of sickness, about abundance instead of lack, about peace instead of turmoil, about happiness instead of sadness. By listening to the Heart you will begin to create your world anew. A world where Love reigns supreme and health, abundance, peace & happiness are the norm.

I’m going to close this post with a quote from Ernest Holmes: “Love is within us. It cannot be destroyed. It can be ignored. To the extent that we abandon love we will feel it has abandoned us. Denying love is our only problem, and embracing it is the only answer. Through the power of love, we can let go of past history and begin again. Love heals, forgives, and makes whole.”
