Let It Go

“Do not waste one moment in regret, for to think feelingly of the mistakes of the past is to reinfect yourself.”   …Neville Goddard

Albert Einstein once said: “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.”  Whom amoung has had the good fortune of never making a mistake? Some of them are petty, and we forget them as soon as we make them. We sometimes joke and laugh at them but quickly let them go.

Then there are those serious and huge ones we make, which are a whole lot more difficult to let go of. We seem to hold onto them until they completely consume us and turn our lives into a living hell.

And there are those occurrences which we see as accidents that happen where we allow ourselves to be consumed with the idea that if we, or the person or persons involved, had done something a bit differently it wouldn’t have happened. We seem to hold onto these thoughts until they remove every bit of joy from our lives.

“Your passage through time and space is not random. You cannot but be in the right place at the right time”   …ACIM

Wow! How many of us can accept this idea; who would believe that we’re being guided through this physical experience? With all the bad things that seem to happen at times it sure doesn’t seem as if we’re being guided. It seems as if whomever or whatever is guiding us has lost sight of the direction we should be headed in.

It matters not what we may think or believe about it, we are being guided by one or the other of two guides. Every choice we make is made with guidance from one of them; there can be no exceptions to this. And our choices either lead us toward life’s only purpose, which is joy, or away from it and farther into misery and darkness.

Now has no meaning to the ego. The present merely reminds it of past hurts, and it reacts to the present as if it were the past.”   …ACIM

10-30-18-Time

There’s only one period of time that any of us can live in and that’s this very moment; right now. No matter how much we recall the past or anticipate the future neither one of them exists. They’re both illusions. If you’re holding onto a past experience, regardless of what it is, you’re being guided by the ego. If you’re worrying about, or in any way awaiting a future, you’re being guided by the ego.

The ego itself is an illusion, which is why the present moment doesn’t mean anything to it. For the present moment is the only time there is, and therefore all reality and truth are contained in it. The ego doesn’t know anything about truth and reality, and therefore it doesn’t know anything about the present moment.

The ego is delusional and so out of touch with reality it believes the past is the present. Therefore it believes it lives in the past. And from this delusional past it seeks to create a future.

“Forgive the past and let it go, for it is gone.”   …ACIM

This blog attempts to promote the awareness that Life, Love & Joy are identical, and nothing else exists anywhere or anytime. In so doing it has to be direst and unwavering in its approach. Because of this there’s no choice other than to point out  what the ego’s future looks like. Even though there may be a few fleeting moments of perceived happiness along the way, we all know where it leads. It has never, nor will it ever, lead anywhere except deeper into darkness through sickness, misery, old age and death.

But that being said, as already stated the ego is an illusion, and thankfully so is the future it promotes. It promotes an illusionary future based on a delusional belief that the past is the present. Therefore, its goal is to make a future like the past.

I’m not trying to tell you that there can never be any joy or happiness while we’re in this physical experience. What I am attempting to do is to teach myself that the very opposite of that is true. As mentioned above, there are two guides from which we can choose. And because we cannot follow both, we must choose which one we’re going to receive advice from. If we allow the ego to guide us then our future can be none other than darkness through sickness, misery, old age and death.

On the other hand, if we choose the Holy Spirit and accept His Thoughts, which originate in Love as our Guide, then our experiences can be, as the following quote tells us, as rich and limitless as Heaven itself

10-31-18-Just Love“Without your special function has  this world no meaning for you. Yet it can become a treasure house as rich and limitless as Heaven itself.”   …ACIM

If we take the time to contemplate upon this world as we see it, we soon discover that it makes absolutely no sense at all. In other words, it has no meaning. It’s a repetitive cycle of birth and death; how could that ever make any sense, or have any real meaning?

If we’re honest with ourselves we already know the answer to that question. We know that it doesn’t now, nor will it ever, make any sense or have any meaning. The reason for that is it’s an illusion as we perceive it, and an illusion can never have meaning nor make sense.

Yet the implication contained in the above quote is, if we can discover our special function then a different possibility arises. The possibility of a meaningless experience being exchanged for a treasure house as rich and limitless as Heaven itself. Wow! If there’s the slightest possibility this is true, who would not be interested in discovering their special function?

“The grace of God rests gently on forgiving eyes, and everything they look on speaks of Him to the beholder.”   …ACIM

10-31-18-An Idea

Specialness is not of God. It’s the main attribute of the ego, which believes it’s a special entity divorced from every other living thing. At the very instant we decided to separate ourselves from our Creator the ego was made to take His place. It was made to fulfill the one desire God, because of the universality of Love, could not satisfy, which is the yearning to be treated as special.

For a bit I’m going to drop the word special and replace it with unique. In this world of illusions – and make no mistake it is nothing but illusions – every one of the billions that believe they’re here are seen as different by others. But from their own points of view each one sees himself as not only different but in his own perspective unique. That’s the whole idea of separation; to be separate and different, and in our own way, unique.

10-31-18- Nikola Tesla“You cannot be anywhere that God did not put you, and God created you as part of Him.”   …ACIM

I’m going to repeat a common thread used throughout this blog: We may believe we’re all separate, different and unique, but it’s not true except in illusions. If we can accept the above quote as truth, then it will be easy to understand that as part of God we could never be separate or different from others.

The belief in separation and specialness is behind every fearful and negative thought we’ve ever had. And it’s also the cause of every problem we’ve ever had, or ever will have. Therefore, for those who may be interested in observing a transformation in this world, it’s time to let that belief go. Withdraw your focus from it and sit in wonder of the idea that this world can become a treasure house as rich and limitless as Heaven itself.

“Forgiveness is the only thing that stands for truth in the illusions of the world.”   …ACIM

The Course’s version of forgiveness is a whole lot different than that which the world believes. The world sees forgiveness as overlooking something that’s happened, but still holding the doer guilty. The world’s forgiveness depends on the whims of the forgiver and can be withdrawn at any time.

Forgiveness as the Course teaches it means the forgiver recognizes that everything in this world is an illusion, and what seems to happen has not happened at all. The one the world sees as guilty the Holy Spirit sees as innocent, because nothing at all has happened. It’s all illusions. It’s the same as recognizing the Spirit and overlooking the flesh.

In brief, our special function is to accept the uniqueness, or the specialness, of our perception of the world. And to realize that each of us see the world differently than others perceive it. The function has been given to us by the Holy Spirit. It is the same forgiveness from which He has forgiven us. It is our function to share it to forgive the world. Our unique perceptions are what make it special.

I’m going to close this post with a quote from A Course in Miracles: Your perception will end where it began. Everything meets in God because everything was created by Him and in Him.

It is encouraging but so hard to understand it is all an illusion. Sure feels real when someone hurts you deeply. My heart chooses forgiveness and letting go. On the other hand I feel a part of letting go is expressing my feeling so I can let them go. Forgiving is healing. But I believe I do not have to except the behaviour that created the problem. Taking responsibility for my feelings brings awareness and change for the better to the situation. Thanks for sharing your wisdom. I will be glad when I wake up and know the truth of it all.
