“When your mind, that may be wavering in the contradictions of many scriptures, shall rest unshaken in divine contemplation, then the goal of union is yours.” –The Bhagavad Gita
Sometimes the most dedicated among us can get into the habit of listening to too many sources, which causes our perception of their renditions of the same message as differing, unclear and even confusing.
In any circumstance of that nature I try with all my might to break through the fog of confusion and direct my thoughts to the one Source who, in my perception, is infallible — Jesus and his teachings in The Course In Miracles.
“You are a miracle, capable of creating in the likeness of your Creator. Everything else is only your own nightmare and does not exist. Only the creations of light are real.” –A Course In Miracles
From the moment you first became aware of your surroundings after your entry into this physical dimension until you were old enough to strike out on your own can you recall ever being taught you are a miracle? I will venture a guess that such a teaching at any time would be a very rare occurrence until you discovered The Course.
You should use the mighty and unlimited Power of your thoughts and meditate upon the above quote as often as practical to do so. It’s not difficult to derive from it that your Creator performed a miracle in creating you and you are capable of creating in your Creator’s likeness. In other words, you are as capable of performing miracles as God is.
“The ego is a man-made attempt to perceive himself as he wished to be rather than as he is.” –A Course In Miracles
Before we can reverse direction and return to higher dimensions, there’s many points of information that we humans must unlearn about ourselves, the universe, life and God. One of the first points of information we must unlearn, or let go of, is the idea that we can change what God created.
You are an idea in the Mind of God and ideas never leave the mind of the thinker. Therefore, you are held forever in His Mind. The idea that is you was conceived in a Cosmic burst of Divine Vision. A Divine Image of Light, Peace, Happiness, Joy and Love in God’s Mind. This is how the Miracle manifested which brought you into being. You are as capable of experiencing your own ideas and Visions of light, peace, happiness, joy and love as your Creator is. Through the power of your thoughts and feelings you are a Co-Creator with God.
What God created shines and shines forever, it cannot ever be changed or extinguished. You are as God created you and so you will forever be. And He created you to create as He creates. That’s your whole purpose in life; to create as God creates and in doing so be a wellspring of Peace, Health, Happiness and Joy to yourself and others. As The Course points out: “Child of God, you were created to create the good, the beautiful, and the holy.”
“The self you made, evil and full of sin, is meaningless. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God, and light and joy and peace abide in you.” –A Course In Miracles
I don’t like using words such as evil and sin, especially evil. But Jesus uses them in his description of the self you made and I have no license to change or ignore that which he used. The self you made is that which we refer to as the ego and was an attempt to change yourself and be as you wished to be rather than as you are.
This so-called self is that which believes it’s separate from God and therefore susceptible to the ravages of separation. It sees itself as weak and vulnerable to every negative piece of news out there. It believes it is destined to grow old, get sick and die. The only hope it sees is to overcome sin and evilness and be good enough to be accepted by God after death.
It’s all – every bit and belief of it – an illusion. Which is why, as the above quote says, it’s meaningless. It’s meaningless because you made it all up. You are not full of sin and you are not evil. You are as God in His Love created you and you will never, ever, be different from what He created. Therefore, your sinlessness is guaranteed by God, and light and joy and peace abide in you.
“Sickness is a defense against the truth” –A Course In Miracles
Every time I read a passage like the one above my mind scrambles itself in a flurry of activity and immediately finds within itself the following: “This course will be believed entirely or not at all. For it is wholly true or wholly false and cannot be but partially believed.”
Then I’m faced with a conundrum. Do I accept that which seems almost impossible; or do I take the easy route and accept what the world teaches me. For the teaching of the world is relatively easy to accept and requires no effort on my part at all. But when, as they say, “the chips are down,” I find the decision really easy. Even though Jesus calls this world insane, I still have never believed that a human being is born into it to automatically be sick.
Then I’m faced with a question; what is the truth that sickness defends against? The Course also tells us plainly that: “When God created you, He made you part of Him.” How much more plain could it be; how could I be part of God and be sick? There’s not another belief anywhere in the Universe that’s more ludicrous than to believe that part of God can be sick. Therefore, if I’m sick then I do not believe what The Course teaches and I’m using sickness as proof that I’m not what I am.
“Sickness is a decision. It is not a thing that happens to you quite unsought, which makes you weak and brings you suffering.” –A Course In Miracles
Wow! How fantastic and far-out does the truth seem to be when seen from an insane world perspective? See how strongly the ego pounces upon a statement like that and tries to stomp it into a world of fantasy! There’s nothing in all the Universe that frightens the ego more. The ego is already insane and to utter such a statement as the one above drives it completely bonkers.
You have no idea of the tremendous amount of energy it has taken to change a Child of God into believing he/she is a weak, separate and small entity vulnerable to all the illnesses the world throws at him/her. It’s not an easy thing to convince a Child of the Holy Creator of the entire Universe that he/she can be sick. It takes eons and eons to finally cause a change so drastic that the whole Universe is affected by it.
“…The journey into darkness has been long and cruel, and you have gone deep into it.” –A Course In Miracles
The journey into darkness has been a journey away from God and His Divine Light of Love. It’s a journey instituted by the ego whose path is paved with loneliness, weakness, littleness, sickness, suffering and fear, which leads nowhere but to the cemetery. For where else could a journey away from God lead; where else could it go?
“Healing involves an understanding of what the illusion of sickness is for. Healing is impossible without this.” –A Course In Miracles
If, as Jesus says, healing is impossible without an understanding of what the illusion of sickness is for; is it not time to learn and accept this understanding? Sickness is a final attempt by the ego in its insanity to separate God’s Son from his Father.
It takes away all belief in the truth that God’s Son is an eternal part of Him. For how can anyone wracked with sickness and suffering believe himself, or see himself, as part of God? And the reverse is just as true; for how can anyone see himself as part of God and still be sick and suffer? The two positions are incompatible with each other. If one is true the other is false; there’s no compromise that can be made in this.
I’m going to close this post with a quote from the great Vietnamese Buddhist Monk, Thich Nhat Hanh: “People deal too much with the negative, with what is wrong. Why not try and see positive things, to just touch those things and make them bloom.”
Thank you for visiting this site. I am most appreciative and grateful. My prayer is that you’ll touch the positive in you and allow yourself to bloom into perfect health as your Creator intended.
