“The light of truth is in us, where it was placed by God. It is the body that is outside us…” …ACIM

At least two thousand years ago Jesus was asked the question, “What is truth?” He was asked this question because earlier he had said: “To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. He didn’t answer Pilate’s question because, I believe, he had already borne enough witness unto the truth that those who truly wanted to know would know. And to tell Pilate that the truth was already in him ready to be remembered would be, at this stage of his existence, futile.

“There is a wariness that is aroused by learning that the body is not real. And there are overtones of seeming fear around the happy message, ‘God is love.'” …ACIM

The Course also tells us that, “When God created you, He made you part of Him.” If, as the above quote says, God is love and as this one says, God made you part of Him; then what are you? The answer to that question is pretty oblivious: You are Love. This is the only truth there ever was, there is or there ever will be. The light of this truth is in all of us for that’s where God placed it when He made us part of Him.

Most of us don’t recognize ourselves as capable of containing the light of truth within us because we believe ourselves to be separate little entities living in separate bodies in a world of separation. In living in such dilutional states how could we not be wary or fearful when we’re told that the body is not real or that God is Love?

Most of us either believe we’re living in the body or the body is what we are and God is a separate being who dwells way off in space somewhere or is some sort of energy that dwells outside of us. All of these scenarios are false and false beliefs lead us nowhere except down the road of fear. How could you not be fearful if you believe you’re living in your body or that you are your body? For you’re well aware that the body is temporary. And what happens to the you that lives in the body or the you that is the body when the body self-destructs as it’s sure to do?

This is the belief that causes humans to do everything within their perceived power to hold onto the body. It’s also why, knowing the body cannot be held onto, they have made up the false idea of an afterlife. There is no such thing as an afterlife. There is only one Life and that Life is now and it is God and you are are part of It. God does not dwell in a physical body and you, being part of God, do not live in one either, nor are you one.

If you believe you are absent from God, you will believe that He is absent from you.” …ACIM

The erroneous belief that it’s possible to be separate from God and that you have separated from God is the cause of every negative and fearful condition you have ever experienced. In The Course Jesus is speaking about man when he addresses this fallacy: “A sense of separation from God is the only lack he really needs to correct.” The following reassurance from The Course needs to be meditated upon, thought about and repeated until it’s accepted as the truth of your existence: “God has given you a place in His Mind which is yours forever.”

You must accept the truth that God has given you a place in His Mind which is yours forever and that’s where you are. As the above image-quote points out, you are at home in God. That is where you are and that is where you have always been and that is where you will always be. You are not in your physical body and your physical body is not you.

The acceptance of this truth is absolutely necessary in order to heal for it’s impossible to heal as long as you see yourself separate from God. The opposite is also true. Once you accept the truth that you are part of God and therefore, not separate, ordinary common sense will tell you that it’s impossible for a part of God to be sick.

“Only the eternal can be loved, for love does not die. What is of God is His forever, and you are of God.” …ACIM

It is the belief that you are separate from God that has caused all your sickness, all your pain, all your suffering, all your depression, all your worries, all your fears, all your lacks and all your other negativities. These conditions have no other cause than your false belief that you are separate from your Creator.

What is a belief? A belief is no more than a bunch of thoughts you keep thinking until they become true for you. This is the reason why truth seems to be different for everyone. What you believe is true for you or you wouldn’t believe it, for no one believes anything unless they believe it to be the truth.

No one can believe two different things about the same subject at the same time. It’s impossible for you to believe that God created you as part of Him and also believe that you are separate from Him. It’s also impossible to not believe that one or the other of these scenarios is true. It’s your choice as to which one you’re going to accept, think about, meditate upon and let it become true for you.

The Only True Separation

Regardless of your beliefs about it you’ll never be separate from God for nothing can be separate from God and live. But you can believe you are and this false belief is the cause of fear and guilt which, in turn, are the cause of sickness, suffering and all other negative conditions.

The thing you are truly separate from is the very thing you feel most connected to. As Jesus informs us in my opening quote: It is the body that is outside us. In the third ACIM image quote above he also tells us: You are at home in God, dreaming of exile but perfectly capable of awakening to reality. You are at home in God, not in your body and you are not your body for a body could never be in God. The body is a learning device that you have made and like everything you have ever made it is not you nor are you living in it. But you may believe either one of these false scenarios to be true.

I’m going to close this post with a quote from A Course in Miracles: “The body needs no healing. But the mind that thinks it is a body is sick indeed! And it is here that Christ sets forth the remedy. His purpose folds the body in His light and fills it with the holiness that shines from Him.
