Which One?

“What you desire is what cannot be given from anywhere but your own Source.” …A Course of Love

I don’t think there’s anyone who would deny that this is a divided society in which we believe we live. Is there any aspect of this so-called life we have made for ourselves that’s not divided pretty well down the middle? Can you look at any part of human society without seeing a divided world?

There are many people who try to provide reasons as to why this is so and follow up with ways in which it can be corrected. But what I’ve observed is these people are on one side of the chasm offering answers to those on the other hoping they’ll see the error of their ways and come on over to their side.

It’s so easy to get caught up in all the divisions because most people in this world of separation listen to the urgings of their egos. And as A Course in Miracles tells us: “The ego always tries to preserve conflict.”

The ego knows nothing about peace because peace, real and lasting peace, is an attribute of Love and the only thing the ego knows about Love is that it must be avoided above all else. It’s terrified of Love because it knows that any contact with It will bring about its immediate demise.

“For hatred does not cease by hatred at any time: hatred ceases by love. This is an unalterable law.” …The Dhammapada

Hatred is a product of minds that believe they are separated from their Source. As Nelson Mandela wrote in Long Walk to Freedom: “No one is born hating another person… People must learn to hate…” Only those who are taught to believe in separation from their Source can be taught to hate. They’re taught that there’s nothing beyond the flesh, or if there is it can only be experienced after death, and therefore, they fail to recognize the Spirit.

Those who believe they’re separated from their Source, the only real Source being God or as I like to say, Love, live their lives in fear. And it’s fear that breeds hate.

As the above Buddhist quote tells us, hatred ceases by love, which is an unalterable law. Fear and hate cannot survive in the presence of Love. It’s an impossibility for them to be together. When Love is recognized fear and hate withdraw immediately into the nothingness from which they came, the ego’s thought system.

“There are only two thought systems, and you demonstrate that you believe one or the other is true all the time.” …A Course in Miracles

Whether you accept it, or not, whether you believe it, or not, does not change the fact that you are teaching all the time. There’s not a moment in your life when you’re not sleeping that you’re not teaching. You’re either teaching others or yourself but you are teaching. As the Course says: “The question is not whether you will teach, for in that there is no choice.”

The only choice you have in this is what thought system you teach from. As the above quote points out there are only two. There’s the ego’s thought system which is based in fear and there’s God’s Thought System which is based in Love and you’re always teaching from one or the other. And the worst thing about this is, unless you have made a conscious choice to think from Love’s Thought System then by default you’re thoughts come from the thought system of fear

The following quote by Groucho Marx explains clearly how simple it is to make the right choice: “I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.” He knew that happiness is a choice and it is a component of Love not fear. He made the conscious choice to let Love’s Thoughts of happiness take charge of his life, which is a choice everyone can make.

“No one but yourself affects you. There is nothing in the world which has the power to make you ill or sad or weak or frail.” …A Course in Miracles

Groucho Marx understood what the above quote tells us even though he had never read it. Jesus said, No one but yourself affects you and Marx said, I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy. The thing is, do you believe and accept these two statements as being true; for they sure agree with one another? Once we can accept this information as truth and begin making it a part of our daily lives we can begin to rise above all the fear and negativity that swirls around us every day.

Please don’t misunderstand me, I am not promoting carelessness. What I am promoting is what I have been promoting since I began posting on this site. The great spiritual teacher, Carlos Castaneda explained it better than I can. He said: “We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.” And the late great Wayne W. Dyer agreed. He said: “Be miserable or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it’s always your choice.”

This site promotes the idea that Love is the only thing that matters in this world. All the rest is folly and in the end amounts to absolutely nothing. There’s always the choice before us as to whether we build our lives from the Thought System of Love or the thought system of fear. As these great spiritual teachers point out, it’s always a choice. Choosing Love is recognizing the Spirit. While you see only the flesh you can choose nothing but fear.

I don’t mean to imply that it’s always an easy choice for most humans have been indoctrinated with the idea of separation from God since time began. In fact, that’s the reason time was made, to separate ourselves from Love. Therefore, changing from thoughts derived from fear to thinking thoughts of love takes commitment. But once the choice is made the Powers of Heaven flow to help you. Love will begin to dominate your thoughts and therefore your life. Fear cannot remain in Love’s presence and as Love flows in fear will slip back into the nothingness from which it came.

“You feel a little duped at being told love is the answer.” …ACOL

Surely the problems facing this world are too complicated to be solved by Love. Philosophers, Spiritual teachers and many others have been preaching and expounding on Love for thousands of years but problems seem to be increasing. Something as simple as Love can’t be the answer; or can it?

The world, as you see it, is simply a reflection of the world within you, a reflection of your state of mind. Whatever thoughts you allow to fill your mind or heart are either going to be projected or extended outward to make the world you see. You may scoff at this information and reject it but that won’t change the truth of it, nor will it change your world.

Thoughts of sickness, despair, loneliness, worry and all other fear-based thoughts can only enter your mind where the ego dwells. Even though the ego encourages these thoughts it doesn’t want them for itself. Therefore, it projects them outward, away from itself and onto the body and into the world around it. This projection makes the world you see. A world of misery and fear.

On the other hand, thoughts of health, happiness, faith and all other Love-based thoughts bypass the home of the ego and enter the Heart the Home of Love. Love embraces these thoughts and extends them outward onto the body and into the world around it. This extension creates the world you see. A world of joy and Love.

I’m going to close this time with a quote by Sarah Fragoso: “…Your body can’t outrun the thoughts that flow through your mind; every single one of your cells literally vibrates with the energy that your thoughts create.”
