What Are You Thinking About?

“People like us who believe in physics know that the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.”    ~~Albert Einstein

How many of us can accept the idea that the past does not exist except in those thoughts we refer to as memory? How many can accept the idea that the future does not exist except in those thoughts we refer to as imagination? How many of us get tired of hearing the refrain which is becoming more and more familiar; now is the only time there is?

Surely a scientist such as Einstein wouldn’t say something as seemingly absurd as the above quote unless he truly believed it. During his work as a scientist, and it can be said, one of the best, he must have learned something that most humans can’t even understand. I find it difficult to accept that he would say something like that unless he had learned enough experientially to convince himself that it is, in fact, true.

“It is this fact which demonstrates that time is an illusion.”   ~~A Course In Miracles

Just what is this “fact” that Jesus says, demonstrates that time is an illusion? Well it’s pretty simple. The Course says that God’s Will for you is perfect happiness. And that which God wills has no beginning nor will it ever have an ending. God’s Will is eternal. It isn’t something that will happen in the so-called future. The Course also tells us that when God created you He made you part of Him. It should be easy to understand that a part of God could not be anything other than perfectly happy; and perfectly happy now.

Let me ask you; are you perfectly happy now? The answer is, in all probability, no. You’re not perfectly happy because you have let the ego convince you that happiness is something that dwells somewhere else in some future time. And so you continually search for it everywhere except the only place and time in which it can be found, which is within yourself, now. You believe that what is here now is somewhere else in the future. That’s what demonstrates that time is an illusion.

To search for happiness in any person, place, thing or time other than within yourself now is, as The Course says, to follow a road away from it. For happiness dwells nowhere else but within you now. It’s a choice to be your Self instead of what the ego tells you you are.

“Decide but to accept your rightful place as co-creator of the universe, and all you think you made will disappear.”   ~~A Course In Miracles

Even though I quote others periodically in an attempt to stay grounded, my posts are based on the teachings of A Course In Miracles. That being the case I feel at certain intervals I should remind you of something The Course says about itself. I think the above quote presents a perfect opportunity to do so now: “This course will be believed entirely or not at all. For it is wholly true or wholly false and cannot be but partially believed.”

If you read the above quote and feel it’s too much for you to believe and reject it out-of-hand then these posts are not for you. But if you can simply entertain the idea expressed as possible then you’re open to learning. The thing is, if you have already accepted the idea that you are a part of God then the idea of being a co-creator will seem believable right away.

“Into eternity, where all is one, there crept a tiny mad idea at which the Son of God remembered not to laugh.”   ~~A Course In Miracles

What was this tiny mad idea that crept into eternity? It was the first illusion ever experienced and the source of all other illusions. It was the idea that time can intrude upon eternity. Time can no more intrude upon eternity than darkness can intrude upon the sun. Eternity means that time doesn’t exist; it’s an illusion.

Even though you are endowed with the Power of God there are some things that even that Power can’t do. You made the decision to experience time believing you could do so and still remain in eternity. But such a thing is impossible for time and eternity cannot coexist. One cancels the other out.

Nevertheless you decided to try it, and here you are, living in an illusionary world of your own making. Your trying resulted in something much different than you expected. As Jesus says, “Nothing at all has happened but that you have put yourself to sleep and dreamed a dream in which you were an alien to yourself and but a part of someone else’s dream.”

“Choose once again what you would have him be, remembering that every choice you make establishes your own identity as you will see it and believe it is.”   ~~A Course In Miracles

The “him” mentioned in the above quote is your Self and every thought you think establishes your identity as you will see it and believe it is. The starting point and the beginning of your awakening from the dream is to realize, take hold and internalize the truth that you are the dreamer of the dream and not a part of someone else’s dream as you have been dreaming you are.

Once you can truly accept and believe the truth that this is a dream world and you’re the dreamer of the dream then you can choose to begin your awakening from it. You begin by realizing you’re doing the dreaming and therefore, are able and capable of changing the dream.

In the third header quote above you are told that you are a co-creator of the universe. Also, in The Course, talking about the mind, you’re told: Every instant it is creating and always as you will. The Course also informs us that there are no “idle” thoughts. All thinking produces form at some level. If you pay attention to these gems of information you should begin to realize just how powerful your thoughts are. How else could the mind create except by thought?

“One makes the physical and the other creates the spiritual, and we believe in what we make or create.”  ~~A Course In Miracles

The above quote is talking about nothing other than your thoughts. Your thoughts, as The Course says, can represent lower-order or higher-order reality. One makes the physical and the other creates the spiritual. That’s how powerful your thoughts are. The Course also says, talking about your mind, every instant it is creating and always as you will.

“The truth is that there are no ‘idle’ thoughts. All thinking produces form at some level.”   ~~A Course In Miracles

By now it should be clear to anyone reading this post that there are only two choices available to you. Either The Course is false or you are a very powerful creator. That’s it, there’s no other alternative. It should also be clear that if The Course is true then your thoughts are the means through which creation takes place.

If you decide that The Course is true then you should also realize how beneficial to your physical experience it will be to begin paying attention to your thoughts. As the quote above says, there are no ‘idle’ thoughts. What does that mean? It means that every thought you think produces a powerful vibration that ripples throughout creation and produces form at some level. It also means that every thought you think causes your own frequency to adjust to match the frequency of the thought. For you cannot think on any frequency without causing your vibrations to match it. That’s why different thoughts will cause you to feel differently.

You have but two emotions, and one you made and one was given you.”  ~~A Course In Miracles

A quote I used earlier says: Decide but to accept your rightful place as co-creator of the universe, and all you think you made will disappear. The two emotions spoken of above are Love and fear. There are no others. The one given you is Love for you were created by Love in Its own image. The other one, which is the one you made, is fear and it’s this one you derive most of your thinking from. Is it not time to pay attention to what you’re thinking about?

I’m Going to close this time with a rather long quote by James Allen: “A man’s mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind.”
