A Course In Miracles, and many others, teach that this world and everything in it is an illusion. This little poem is an attempt to portray that truth as I see it.

ILLUSIONS

What is an illusion but a trick to deceive the mind;
Causing the unreal to appear real and the truth to be kept blind?
Everything about this physical world is an illusion we believe to be real,
Deep in our hearts we know it, but perception has the stronger appeal.

As the day ends and night approaches the sun sinks into the west,
Which is an example of an illusion for the sun remains at rest.
The Earth rotating around its axis is what’s real,
But here again, perception has the stronger appeal.

When the night draws to a close we enjoy the return of the sun,
This too is an illusion, for of the sun’s return there’s none.
It’s the Earth’s rotation around its axis that also causes the return,
The sun has remained stationary but that’s not what we discern.

Even the idea that the sun remains stationary is out of place,
For the whole solar system is rapidly traversing space.
There’s enough power in illusions to control our beliefs at will,
For we’re traveling in three directions but think we’re standing still.

Our perception of events is very erratic and can be easily deceived,
Which is why when we look directly at an illusion it’s believed.
And so it is with this world in which we think we dwell,
Every bit of it’s an illusion; there’s no truth for it to tell.

The body’s eyes will never see truth, for in this world it’s hidden,
They see only that which stops light; the truth by illusions is forbidden.
The outside form which we call the body is an illusion and this truth it hides:
The Creator didn’t create anything in which mortality abides.

God created you as part of Him therefore you dwell in dimensions above,
You were not created as a physical body but as a Spiritual Being of Love.
Love is what you are even though illusions prevent you from seeing it,
But it matters not how conniving they are they cannot prevent you from being it.

You were created as a Thought that God holds forever in His Mind,
To believe otherwise is to believe an illusion and illusions make you blind.
Thoughts, of which you are one, do not have bodies and neither do you,
You’re looking straight at an illusion when you see the body to be true.

Thoughts always remain part of the thinker’s mind,
Which is why you, as a Thought of God, will always be loving and kind.
God created you as a Thought, which makes you part of Him,
But an illusion has you believing you’re vulnerable to every little whim.

This illusion, the greatest of all, is the belief you’re alone against the universe,
It’s the belief you’re separate from your Creator and it’s your greatest curse.
It’s this same belief which also causes your greatest fear,
Which is, the ending of this physical experience, which you hold so dear

This fear is so great because the body is believed to be the real you,
And there’s no doubt that the body’s demise is seen as true.
It’s also this belief that causes every one of your problems for sure,
Change your mind to truly accept you’re part of God and problems will be no more.
