God’s Will For You

“Truth is God’s Will. Share His Will, and you share what He knows. Deny His Will as yours, and you are denying His Kingdom and yours.” ~~ACIM

It seems that most humans hold the belief that no matter what happens in this physical experience, which we erroneously refer to as life, whether it be good or bad, it’s God’s Will. If it’s good they usually shout or think, thank you, God! If it’s bad they usually mutter with down-cast emotions and somber thoughts, oh well, it must have been God’s Will.

The above quote says, Truth is God’s Will. To believe that your Creator would will anything other than good for you is to not know the Truth. This is the reason why the majority of humans, whether they admit it or not, are afraid of God. They’re afraid of God because they know Him not, and therefore, know not His Will for them, and humans always fear the unknown.

“Diligent purposefulness; determination.”

I took the above definition from an online dictionary. It is the second definition that is offered for the meaning of the word, will. I decided to use this one because it, more or less, explains how I view the meaning of the word will in the context of this post. I’m not sure I would assign it to God’s will but more so to our wills as we view ourselves. And in a limited sense, I suppose, it may possibly touch lightly upon God’s Will also.

I’ve sort of written myself into a pickle here because I’m not sure if I’m able to clearly describe what I’m holding in my thoughts about this word will. But I’m going to continue on and see what comes of it. First of all, I feel as if I need to, especially for those who fail to recognize the Spirit, differentiate between the human will and the Divine Will of God. As I see it, the only part of the above definition that might touch God’s will would be the word, purposefulness. God’s will does have a purpose but as far as diligence and determination are concerned they’re completely human characteristics and are irrelevant to God.

They fit very well into the mind-set of some humans, but shouldn’t even be mentioned in any reference to God. Diligence and determination are looked upon as the characteristics of humans who are high achievers. But God is so far beyond any of that, that in Him they have no meaning.

“…Your will and God’s cannot be out of accord, because they are one.” ~~ACIM

Here I am talking about the human will and the Divine will as if they’re two different wills and then I come face-to-face with a quote that says they are one. Does that not raise up a conundrum for me? It seems that way, especially when I recall this information about The Course: “This course will be believed entirely or not at all. For it is wholly true or wholly false and cannot be but partially believed.”

On the other hand, it doesn’t bother me in the least, for I’m already aware of the answer. I just have to figure out a way to write it down so that it will make sense to others. My opening quote implies that we can choose to deny that His Will is ours. In other words, it all comes down to our beliefs and our vision, as The Course points out: “You see the flesh or recognize the Spirit. There is no compromise between the two. If one is real the other must be false, for what is real denies its opposite.”

If you see the flesh only and fail to recognize the Spirit then it’s going to be difficult for you to accept the idea that your will and God’s Will are the same. But if you’re able to look beyond the flesh and recognize the Spirit then your vision is directed by the Light of Truth. With this Light lighting your way, ideas such as your will and God’s are the same will gently settle into your mind and heart without any resistance at all.

“There is no difference between your will and God’s.” ~~ACIM

Wow! There’s another bit of information that some might take strong issue with. I mean, how can it be that there’s no difference between your will and God’s? How can that even make any sense at all?

Well, it makes perfect sense when seen from the perspective of The Course whose whole purpose is to heal the separation between God and His Children. But when it’s looked upon from the perspective of this world whose purpose is to maintain the belief in separation it makes no sense at all.

In other words, it depends upon your decision as to whether you see the flesh or recognize the Spirit. Everyone sees the flesh when they look at another person for that’s what the body’s eyes are for. They’re made to see the outside form, to see only that which stops light. But the idea of this quote is not to stop at the outside where physical light does, but to use your Spiritual vision and look beyond form and recognize the Spirit that animates that form.

“Everything God wills is not only possible but has already happened.” ~~ACIM

God is eternal and dwells in eternity so how could it be otherwise? God knows nothing about time, which is an ego-made illusion. God doesn’t will something then wait for it to happen in the future, which He knows doesn’t exist. What God wills happens when He wills it, which is always the present, therefore, it has already happened.

“There is no will but God’s.” ~~ACIM (Lesson 74)

In Truth there is only one of anything in the Universe and that Oneness is Love, or God if you prefer, of which you were created as part. That which we humans perceive as our will which is also perceived as separate from God’s Will is not really will at all. It’s no more than the ego’s wishes, for the ego knows nothing about true Will, which belongs to God and only God.

You were not created to be born into a physical body, live a short time, grow old, get sick and die. You were created as a Spirit Being with Life eternal and therefore, you will never grow old, get sick or die, except in illusionary dreams. For it is God’s Will that your Life be completely healthy, perfectly happy, wondrously joyful and without end.

“God wills you perfect happiness now. Is it possible that this is not also your will?” ~~ACIM

This is the absolute proof you need to understand that God’s Will and your will are the same. Is it not your will that you have eternal life? Of course it is. But that being said, you wouldn’t want to live forever in pain and misery; would you? I don’t think you would. That’s why God’s Will for you is perfect happiness; and is that not your will also? Sure it is. But misery and pain are not conducive to perfect happiness. That’s why, as The Course says, your Creator, which is Love, created you wholly without pain, and wholly without suffering of any kind.

“You were not meant to suffer and to die. Your Father wills these dreams be gone. Let truth correct them all.” ACIM (Lesson 107)

There’s not many people who believe that God doesn’t have the Power to cause that which He wills to come to pass. So if God wills something for you then why has it not happened? The answer is, you believe that you’re separate from Him. You believe that God is all-Powerful but you have very little power. And so when you need something you begin your request to God with the feeling that it may be provided for you if it is God’s Will.

As can be plainly seen, the above quote, taken from The Course, informs us that suffering and death, which are not real but dreams, are not God’s Will. God wills these dreams be gone. If God wills them to be gone; then what power could keep them in your experience? Is there a power greater than God’s Will? Well, as far as your personal experience goes there is, it’s the belief that you are, as mentioned in the previous paragraph, separated from your Creator. It’s the belief in separation that causes all illusions, including suffering and death.

I’m going to close this post with a quote from Verse 3 of Lesson 110 in The Course: “If you remain as God created you, appearances cannot replace the truth, health cannot turn to sickness, nor can death be substitute for life or fear for love. All this has not occurred if you remain as God created you. You need no thought but just this one to let redemption come to light the world and free it from the past.”

Thank you for visiting this site. I am grateful to you. May God shed the Light of remembrance upon you so that you may always remember that God’s Will and your will are the same.
