As God Sees You

“The Thoughts of God are far beyond all change and shine forever.”   –ACIM

Albert Einstein is supposed to have once said; “I want to know God’s thoughts, the rest are details.” Most people would think that no one, and that includes Albert Einstein, could know God’s thoughts. And that’s probably true, especially in ordinary, everyday worldly thinking, which I prefer to refer to as mental activity.

In Lesson four in The Course Jesus introduces the idea that this type of thinking doesn’t mean anything. He says: “You will find, if you train yourself to look at your thoughts, that they represent such a mixture that, in a sense, none of them can be called ‘good’ or ‘bad.’ This is why they do not mean anything.”

That being said, I don’t think he’s telling us that we shouldn’t pay attention to what we’re thinking about most of the time. For example in Chapter two of the text he says: “The truth is that there are no ‘idle’ thoughts. All thinking produces form at some level.”

So how can these two seemingly contradictory statements be rectified so as not to contradict one another? Well, in the text he’s explaining how powerful our thoughts really are. As he says: “What gives rise to the perception of a whole world can hardly be called idle.” While in The Workbook he’s introducing the idea of eventually gaining some control over our thoughts. As he says: “It is a first attempt in the long-range purpose of learning to see the meaningless as outside you and the meaningful within.”

“The Thought God holds of you is like a star, unchangeable in an eternal sky.”   –ACIM

As we learn to gradually steady our minds in the midst of all the everyday mental activity we’ll find that it’s not a difficult task at all to know God’s Thoughts. I say this because in order to know your Self you have to know a Thought of God, for that’s what you are.

Both this quote and the one I used in opening show us the contrast between how God sees us and how we’ve been conditioned to see ourselves. First of all, they reinforce the Truth that we are Thoughts, or Ideas, held eternally and unchangeable in God’s Mind. Secondly, we are beyond all change and will shine forever. Can you picture yourself like a star shining unchangeable in an eternal sky? That’s how bright, clear and beautiful God sees you. And how could you be anything less than that if you’re part of God?

Please don’t get caught up in the idea that you are a fixed star held shining in the sky unmoveable for eternity. That would be a prison nearly as bad as this physical environment is. It’s a metaphor to convey to our limited physical understanding the message of how brightly shining and beautiful you are in God’s Vision; His perfect Creation. Please notice that It says, like a star.

“The sun and ocean are as nothing beside what you are.”   –ACIM

Astronomers and other scientists tell us that the sun is a star; the closest one to the Earth. Even though it’s the nearest one they point out that it’s still 93,000,000 miles (150,000,000 KM) away from us. Can you imagine the amount of life-giving energy it steadily emits to lighten, warm and maintain physical life on earth from that distance? Yet Jesus says that it’s as nothing beside what you are.

Does that not begin a stirring in you that may eventually cause you to understand what you are? That you are part of God; that you are a Co-Creator with Him; and as such you are equal to Him in Power; that you are endowed with all the Power in the whole Universe? For how could you be otherwise if you’re part of God?

“Yet all that stands between you and the power of God in you is but your learning of the false and your attempts to undo the true.”   –ACIM

Jesus also tells us in The Course that: “There are only two thought systems, and you demonstrate that you believe one or the other is true all the time.” One is God’s Thought System, which is based in Love and the other is the ego’s thought system, which is based in fear.

As you go about your life each and every day you are using one or the other of these opposing thought systems. There is no choice in this, as The Course points out: “The question is not whether you will teach, for in that there is no choice.” Whether you’re consciously aware of it, or not, you’re always teaching, or demonstrating, which thought system you believe to be true.

If your thoughts are predominantly derived from the ego’s thought system of fear then you are teaching –and learning– the false, even though it may be unintentional. On the other hand, if you can consciously make the decision to let go of fearful and negative thoughts and think positive thoughts of Love more often, you’ll teach –and learn– the truth that the Power of God resides in you.

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won.”   –Mahatma Gandhi

If any human was able to think from God’s Thought system of Love one hundred percent of the time he or she would not be in this world. They would have graduated to a higher-frequency existence. There’s no one here that can do that unless they’ve made a decision to manifest as a Teacher, teaching the truth that God is not a god of vengeance but a God of Love, as Jesus — and others — did.

To be told that the Power of God is within you doesn’t mean anything unless you think upon it until it transfers from the intellect to the heart. As long as it remains in the intellect only it’s no more than empty words, which don’t mean anything. But when it transfers to the heart it then becomes part of you; you can feel the truth in it.

To think about information like that means that you’re thinking from God’s Thought System of Love. If you can make a conscious effort to do this as often as possible, despair and fear will begin to fade away. As Mahatma Gandhi did, you’ll realize that the way of truth and love always wins.

“Yet still and white and lovely will it shine through all eternity.”   –ACIM

The above quote refers to the Thought of God that is you and how you will eventually come to see your Self. This will happen as you change your mind and allow your thinking to focus on God’s Thoughts. Not just focus on Them but allow them to transfer to your heart and into your Power of Reason and belief system. For reason will tell you that the body and all other physical things are temporary and, in truth, have no meaning. As Jesus says in Lesson four: “It is a first attempt in the long-range purpose of learning to see the meaningless as outside you and the meaningful within.”

The ordinary, everyday worldly thinking, which I refer to as mental activity, is all focused on the body and this insane physical world. They are those which Jesus calls meaningless thoughts. They are meaningless because the body and this physical world are outside you and in the whole program of existence mean nothing. As The Course tells us: “The body is outside you, and but seems to surround you, shutting you off from others and keeping you apart from them and them from you.”

I’m going to close this post with a Zen mondo, or as it can be called, an exchange between a disciple and his master: Someone asked. “What am I?”  Guangfan answered, “There is nothing in the whole Universe that is not you.”

Thank you for visiting this site. I am truly grateful to you. May God richly Bless you by showing you your true Self.
