“It is in your power to make this season holy, for it is in your power to make the time of Christ be now.”   –A Course In Miracles

Whether they realize it or not most humans walk this earth believing that power is awarded to a very few at the top of the ladder. Whether it’s a political ladder, a corporate ladder, a social ladder or some other ladder it’s those that reach the top who wield power. 

This belief arises in the minds of those who don’t recognize the Spirit; those who see the flesh only. Those who see only the flesh see nothing but illusions for that’s what physical power is; an illusion. It’s not real power at all but simply control. This type of so-called power is exercised through punishment or reward. It can’t make this season holy and actually knows nothing about the time of Christ. It looks upon this season through the eyes of consumerism and commercialism and never gives holiness any place.

“Christmas is not a time; it is a state of mind.”   –A Course In Miracles

The great stand-up comedian, Bob Hope, had the state of mind thing figured out when he asked the following question: “My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?”  

Most people who call themselves Christians, and many others, have accepted December the twenty-fifth as the “time” in which Jesus was physically born into this world. There’s nothing wrong with that acceptance for I don’t think anyone knows exactly when he was actually born. The main thing is to do everything you can to reach a state of mind that will allow for understanding the true effect Jesus’ birth and short physical experience  had on this world. 

“The lesson I was born to teach and still would teach to all my brothers is that sacrifice is nowhere and love is everywhere.”   –A Course In Miracles

Most people accept Jesus because of the miracles he performed such as healing the sick and raising the dead and also because of his teaching concerning eternal life in Heaven with him. His teachings are turned into a fairytale type of future happenings. The idea that Heaven and eternal life is something bestowed on only those few who accept Jesus before they die has nothing to do with reality. As The Course reminds us: The world is not left by death but by truth.

In the minds of millions of people Christmas represents the birth of Jesus, the man, who came as a Babe in a Manger. But in The Course Jesus tells us that it reaches beyond that. He says, In this season (Christmas), which celebrates the birth of holiness into this world, join with me, who decided for holiness for you. 

Jesus incarnated into this world to enlighten it to the beautiful truth that God is Love and not a god of judgement and punishment. He came to teach not what Love is, for that cannot be taught, but to teach us how to accept It into our hearts. And by doing so, to find our way back to unity and joy, which is the only purpose life has. 

“The sign of Christmas is a star, a light in darkness. See it not outside yourself but shining in the Heaven within and accept it as the sign the time of Christ has come.”   –A Course In Miracles

As mentioned earlier, Christmas is not a time; it’s a state of mind. The above quote explains what that state of mind is. It’s a state of mind that accepts the truth that there’s nothing outside of you. It’s a state of mind that accepts the truth that Heaven is not some geographical location that is discovered by a few after death. It’s a state of mind that understands that everything, with no exceptions, is a choice you must make. It’s the state of mind that results when you choose Love rather than fear. It’s a state of mind that chooses Heaven over hell every time. It’s a mind that’s filled with Love and knows it’s connected to everything that lives. 

My opening quote says, it is in your power to make the time of Christ be now. There is no other time than now. The past is only a non-existent memory and the future is only in your imagination. That’s why the time of Christ can only be now and it’s within your power to make it so and make this the holiest season of all. 

Christ is God’s only Creation and by extension you are part of Christ. Once you can fully and completely believe this and choose to make it so you have recognized the Spirit; you have recognized your Self. And by recognizing yourself as Spirit you have made the time of Christ be now. The time of Christ is nothing more, but also nothing less, than the choice to accept God’s Love and His Thought System into your heart and mind. Once God’s Love and Thought System are accepted into your heart and mind the ego’s rule and thought system of fear must come to an end. The time of Christ has come. 

“Think like Him ever so slightly, and the little spark becomes a blazing light that fills your mind so that He becomes your only Guest.”   –A Course In Miracles 

Nothing can be separate from God and live. Even if you deny Him completely and accept the ego fully, the little spark of life and holiness is still there within you for it is your connection with Him. When you accept God’s Love and Thought-System into your heart and mind even if, at first, it’s a rudimentary acceptance the little spark will become a blazing light as your thoughts turn to love instead of fear. 

This blazing light is the light in darkness, a star, which is the sign of Christmas. It is not outside yourself and cannot be seen there. It is the light of understanding that begins to shine in the Heaven within. It’s the understanding that holiness is not found under a decorated tree, coloured lights or sleigh bells that jingle. It’s the understanding that holiness can only be found in the Love you accept into your heart. 

I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with Christmas trees, lights or sleigh bells. What I am saying is that even though these things can make the winter brighter and cheerier, the meaning of Christmas cannot be found in them. 

The meaning of Christmas can only be found in your heart for that’s the only place Love and Holiness can be. You have the power to let the time of Christ be now and to make this season holy by opening up the Home of Love and Holiness and sharing them with a world so desperately in need of them. 

You are an extension of All that Is, All that ever was, All that can be and All there ever will be. You are an extension of Pure Love; an Extension of God Himself. To make this season holy and make the time of Christ be now you only need to ask the Holy Spirit to help you recognize your Self. 

I’m going to close this post with a Christmas quote from A Course In Miracles: “This Christmas, give the Holy Spirit everything that would hurt you. Let yourself be healed completely that you may join with Him in healing, and let us celebrate our release together by releasing everyone with us. Leave nothing behind, for release is total, and when you have accepted it with me, you will give it with me.”
