“God’s Name is holy, but no holier than yours. To call upon His Name is but to call upon your own.” ~~A Course In Miracles
How mysterious and deep this experience called life is. We’re here experiencing, we’re able to think and we’re looking for something or someone to rescue us from the misery we’ve made for ourselves. Most humans believe they’re weak and helpless and are hoping that some sort of a higher power exists somewhere. They don’t know what, when or how but they long for something greater than themselves to which they can turn to in times of need. They bow their heads, they bend their knees and plead and beg a god outside of themselves, a god that doesn’t exist, for help.
When they read something like the above quote they fall deeper into unbelief, pain and misery. For how could God’s Name be no holier than theirs? How could God’s Name be their own? That doesn’t make sense. We’re talking about a lowly human and God; how could their Names be equal? They turn their faces into sneers and walk away in disgust muttering in disbelief as they march into a future that doesn’t exist waiting for a saviour that isn’t there.
“You are a miracle, capable of creating in the likeness of your Creator.” ~~A Course In Miracles
Every so often it seems necessary to remind you of something The Course says about itself. This seems an appropriate time, especially after reading the two quotes above: “This course will be believed entirely or not at all. For it is wholly true or wholly false and cannot be but partially believed. And you will either escape from misery entirely or not at all…”
You cannot serve two masters at the same time. You must make the choice as to which one you’re going to serve. There are only two to choose between. They are Love or that which rears its ungly head when Love is not chosen, fear. There are no others. There’s no such luxury as not choosing for until you consciously choose Love, fear will be chosen to replace Love’s absence by the ego, the provider and home of fear.
Most people when they pray ask God for a miracle. And then they wait to see if their request will be answered sometime in the future. They don’t expect an answer immediately because they don’t really believe in miracles and so they hope for one someday. When God created you He made you part of Him, a holy extension of life itself; is that not a miracle?
“We were all indoctrinated into a disenchanted world.” ~~Marianne Williamson
In my last post I wrote: We make our debut into this world in complete innocence, wonderment and Love. This is so because even though our memories are erased of everything except Love and we have to begin anew we still feel the connection to our Creator; to Love. We know who and what we are.
But as soon as we’re old enough to be taught, as Ms. Williamson points out, we’re all indoctrinated into a disenchanted world. It’s a disenchanted world filled with disappointments because of the huge difference between what we expected it to be and what it is. And so we pray to a separate god beseeching him to give us a miracle to deliver us from our misery, not realizing that the miracle we’re looking for is our Self.
“For when you ask, it is always given, every time, with no exceptions.” ~~Esther Hicks
What am I saying in this post; am I saying there’s no god to pray to? How could I be saying such an incredible thing when I write that when God created you He made you part of Him? What I am saying is, there is not an external God that is distant from you. That’s why so many of us become disenchanted, confused and discouraged when we pray and wait for an answer that doesn’t come. I’m saying that the god we’ve been taught to pray to, a god who is separate from us, is the one that doesn’t exist.
Am I saying that prayer is useless; that if the god we pray to doesn’t exist there’s no sense in praying? How could I be saying that when The Course explicitly states, “Prayer is the medium of miracles?”
If you are part of God then why would you need to pray; and to whom would you pray? And what would you ask God for if you’re already part of Him? Are these not sensible questions to ask yourself?
“What you ask for, you receive. But this refers to the prayer of the heart, not to the words you use in praying.” ~~Jesus, in A Course In Miracles
This quote not only agrees with the one quoted earlier from Esther Hicks that when you ask, it is always given, but it goes on to clarify it with these words: This refers to the prayer of the heart, not to the words you use.
I don’t think it should be difficult to understand that the “heart” referred to here is not that physical pump beating out a continuous thump, thump, in your chest. The “heart” referred to is the center of your Being, the very Home of God, the Residence of Love Itself.
Before we can understand anything in this universe we must understand the basic idea that there’s nothing in existence that’s not composed of energy. Energy is never static; it is always moving, or more specifically, vibrating, and it does so at different frequencies. God doesn’t hear, so to speak, the spoken word because of the tremendous difference in frequency rates. God is Love and Love is God and Love vibrates at the highest frequency in existence.
The spoken word vibrates at a very low frequency and therefore it cannot reach God. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t speak when you’re praying. On the contrary, talking to God often makes us feel better and when we feel better our vibrations raise to a higher frequency.
“Prayer is the natural communication of the created with the Creator.” ~~A Course In Miracles
You are a created Being but your body is not that created being. The body hides your true essence and therefore it’s an illusion. God doesn’t communicate with illusions, He communicates with His Creations. You are His Creation, therefore He is calling to you continuously to communicate with Him. But most don’t hear him calling because they are preoccupied with the ego mind and the temporary foolishness of the ego’s world which blocks any and all calls from Love being recognized.
The Course tells us that the only meaningful prayer is for forgiveness. It also says: Essentially, a prayer for forgiveness is nothing more than a request that we may be able to recognize something we already have. And it also tells us that those who have been forgiven have everything. In other words a prayer of the heart is a request that illusions be removed from your sight allowing you to recognize the Spirit. It’s a prayer to recognize your true Self. Once this happens prayer in the traditional sense becomes utterly meaningless. From then on it’s a two-way communication between the created (You) and your Creator (Love).
I’m going to close this post with a prayerful quote from Marianne Williamson: “As I think with love, I co-create with God a space for miraculous breakthroughs. I walk forward in confidence today, having prayed that my mind will be used for holy purposes.”
