“To love yourself is to heal yourself, and you cannot perceive part of you as sick and achieve your own goal.” ~~A Course in Miracles
Have you ever wondered about the scenario referred to as loving yourself? Have you ever wondered who is it that does the loving and who is it that receives the love? Is it the same self that loves and is loved? If you took the time to consider it you could conclude that it’s a complicated idea. Does it mean there’s a you that’s loving and a you that’s not loved until you love you? If you’re capable of loving, you must have love to share but then there must be a you who isn’t loved and needs your love.
If you look at the above quote with your heart open you’ll perceive that it’s possible for a part of you to be sick. But the sickness is according to your own perception. It goes on to say, you cannot “perceive” part of you as sick and achieve your own goal. The “goal” is to love yourself, which will bring about your own healing. In other words, to love yourself is to heal yourself.
How could there ever be anything more important than healing yourself? And you can be assured that the “healing” Jesus mentions here is complete healing. It matters not how sick you perceive yourself to be. As we’re told in The Course: “There is no order of difficulty among miracles. One is not ‘harder’ or ‘bigger’ than another. They are all the same. All expressions of love are maximal.”
“Forgiveness is the great need of this world, but that is because it is a world of illusions.” ~~A Course in Miracles
Everything you see, touch, hear, smell or feel in this physical dimension is an illusion. It’s an illusion because it causes you to believe things are different than they really are. This physical world is the world of the ego and The Course tells us that the ego looks straight at the Father and does not see Him, for it has denied His Son. It doesn’t see Him for it can see nothing but illusions and therefore, cannot know that the Father is in everyone and everything it sees.
The forgiveness mentioned in the above quote is not the same as the world offers. This forgiveness sees no guilt nor offers any judgement. It simply looks beyond the ego and all its illusions and corrects perception. Through correction without judgment it bestows freedom, joy, peace and happiness on everyone and everything it sees.
“Christ waits for your acceptance of Him as yourself and of His wholeness as yours.” ~~A Course in Miracles
When you think of the directive to love yourself, what or who do you see as the self you’re to love? The Course plainly tells you that when God created you, He made you part of Him. Is it possible that a part of God needs love? As a part of God you are Love. Is this how you perceive yourself? Do you perceive yourself as a part of God; a Being of Light and Love? Or do you perceive the single entity reading these words to be yourself?
The Course tells us that our minds are not separate, and God has only one channel for healing, because He has but one Son. Also the above quote may seem to be out of this world – which it is – and therefore unbelievable to anyone who has not accepted The Course as the truth. As mentioned before this world is a world of illusions and plain sense should remind you that truth cannot be found in illusions.
How many people in this world are capable of accepting the idea that Christ waits for your acceptance of Him as yourself? In The Course we’re also told that it is God’s Will that His one Son is you.
“For who is Christ except Your Son as You created Him? And what am I except the Christ in me?” ~~A Course in Miracles
God created Christ as His one and only Son and everything else is an extension of Love through Christ. Christ is God’s one and only Son and as an extension of Christ you are a part of Him. As the above quote implies, you are the Christ in you. That’s what you are and so is every other living thing.
In this world of illusions each and every Soul that God created is seen as different and separate. Some are loved, some are hated, some are loved more than others, some are despised more than others. There is no oneness to be seen anywhere, only separation. And as The Course says, all sickness comes from separation.
No one can perceive and believe themselves to be separate from the Source of health and still be healthy. The Source of health is God and you are part of Him through Christ who is His only Son. God’s only Son lives in you as well as in every other living thing. Once you recognize this truth and accept it as true for you all sickness must depart from you. For a Miracle has come to open your eyes and provide the vision needed to understand your oneness with your Creator.
“Christ is the link that keeps you one with God and guarantees that separation is no more than an illusion of despair.” ~~A Course in Miracles
As already mentioned more than once, this is a world of illusions. But even illusions have their consequences, especially when they’re believed and clung to as if they’re real. Separation is the wellspring of this world, therefore it’s an illusion, for nothing can be separate from its Source and still exist. As The Course says, the world you see has nothing to do with reality. It is of your own making, and it does not exist.
You cannot truly love this world for it’s an illusion and to believe you can love an illusion simply creates another illusion. If this world is an illusion then there’s no other alternative than the self you believe lives in it is also an illusion. For the same reason, it’s impossible to truly love this illusory self. So the question is, how do you love yourself?
The only way you can love yourself is to love God’s Son for that’s who you are. God’s Son is Christ and He’s in you and every other being in existence. There’s nothing living that’s not an extension of Christ. In other words, to love yourself is to love every other being equally as God does. You cannot look upon another of God’s Creations with hostility, acrimony, hate or judgement of any kind and not feel these attributes within yourself. For what you see in another you see in yourself.
“You can love only as God loves. Seek not to love unlike Him, for there is no love apart from His.” ~~A Course in Miracles
God’s Love for you is His Will and His Will for you is perfect happiness. He created you as an extension of His Love to dwell in Happiness and Joy forever. That’s what you are and that’s where you are and you’ll never be anything else or anywhere else for God’s Will cannot be denied.
There is no Perfect Love in this world for Perfect Love casts out fear. That which we feel as love in this illusory world creates fear. As soon as we fall in love as it’s referred to we become fearful of losing the person or thing we love. Therefore, it’s not Perfect Love. Perfect Love lets you understand that nothing can be lost except in illusions.
There is no state beyond perfect happiness. To abide in perfect happiness is to abide in God for He is Love and Love and Happiness go together. One does not exist without the other. To love as God loves is to look beyond the illusions of fear, sickness, misery, old age and death and see only Joy and Happiness for every living thing. When you can look at another living entity and see only joy and happiness for them, then you are loving yourself.
I’m going to close this post with a meditative quote by Marianne Williamson: “Today I see through a different set of eyes, that I might recognize the miracles all around me. I see the sparkle of light that surrounds all things and the yearning for love that exists in everyone. I see the innocence beyond guilt and the love beyond all fear. Thus I am reborn into the truth of who I am.”
