“You do not know how you feel, because you have accepted the ego’s confusion…” …ACIM
Acceptance is one of the strangest actions in the unlimited human reservoir of thought. Acceptance can happen with or without our conscious participation. The above quote being a prime example of unconscious acceptance; for who would consciously accept confusion?
Everything you hear, everything you read, even everything you think is dependent upon acceptance as to whether you’re going to believe it or not. You may accept the above quote as having merit and believe what it says or you may see it as no more than words copied from a book and reject it.
Acceptance is always based on choice and the choice is heavily influenced by a number of factors. For example the above quote is copied from the great Spiritual Work, A Course In Miracles. This work was brought into physical existence by Dr. Helen Schucman and a colleague of hers, Dr. William T. Thetford. Dr. Schucman was the first receiver of the material, which she received over a period of seven years. During those years Dr. Thetford transcribed her shorthand notes, which amounted to some fifteen hundred typewritten pages.
According to the Foreword of the version I use: “Schucman did not claim to be the author of the material herself. As she often explained, she heard a kind of inner dictation and she felt compelled to write it down, even though at times she disagreed with the content and resisted the process. The voice which spoke through Helen clearly identifies himself as Jesus.”
Throughout The Course “Jesus” plainly identifies himself as the same Jesus of Nazareth who walked upon this Earth in physical form two thousand years ago. I’m sharing this aspect of A Course in Miracles because of its claim that Jesus is its Source. As I see it there can be no higher authority than Jesus Christ. Therefore, whether you accept or deny this claim of authorship is paramount to your view of the whole Course.
For those who can’t, or won’t, allow themselves to accept Jesus as it’s Source it’s no more than another spiritual book. They’ll never be able to find any certainty in its message. But for those who can, and do, accept this claim of authorship A Course in Miracles is an infallible Source of Spiritual knowledge. Therefore, a wholehearted conscious acceptance of its authorship is necessary prior to acceptance of the infallibility of its message.
“This course has explicitly stated that its goal for you is happiness and peace.” …ACIM
Who among us doesn’t desire happiness and peace? Since the beginning of time there have been those who have searched, and are still searching, the deepest realms of science, the deepest realms of philosophy, the deepest realms of religion and all other deep realms looking for some meaning to this experience we so erroneously refer to as life.
But the goal of their searching has remained elusive and beyond their grasp. It has done so because its simplicity has hidden it right in plain sight. The ONLY meaning life has is happiness; that’s it, there is no other! Which is why the goal of the Course for you is HAPPINESS and it’s ever-present companion, PEACE. These two are inseparable and eternal attributes of Love. Therefore, there will never be any happiness and peace as long as Love remains unrecognized.
“The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love’s presence, which is your natural inheritance.” …ACIM
In the quote prior to this one Jesus tells us that the goal of the Course is happiness and peace for you. In this one he tells us how that goal will be reached. Happiness and peace will be obtained by those willing to allow the removing of the blocks to the awareness of love’s presence.
When we combine these two pieces of information it’s easy to see that happiness and peace will follow your becoming aware of Love’s presence which is your natural inheritance. In other words, happiness and peace are attributes of your true Self which is Love.
But that being said, none of it can happen without your acceptance. First you’ll need to wholeheartedly accept Jesus Christ as the Source on this teaching. Second, you’ll need to accept that you have allowed your ego to put up blocks to your awareness of your true Self. Third, you’ll need to accept that Love is your true Self; your natural inheritance.
“Sickness is a defense against the truth.” …ACIM
Now we reach that place where some very serious accepting is required. It’s that place where you must accept or deny that Divine healing is possible. The information in the above quote is, in all probability, going to be very difficult for you to accept. For those who may want to check it out for themselves the quote is from Lesson 136 of The Course which is titled, Sickness is a defense against the truth. In this lesson Jesus plainly informs his students that sickness is not an accident, but is of your own ego’s making.
Before you jump up, throw your hands in the air, scream in denial and dismiss this out of hand it just might be to your benefit to look at a few things first. First of all, this post is about acceptance, which means that before any mention of healing can be meaningful it must be preceded by, at least, the willingness to consider some key elements of acceptance. Without this much commitment The Course and any teaching concerning it is meaningless and will have no positive effects. It’s your decision to make.
“I can heal you because I know you. I know your value for you, and it is this value that makes you whole.” …Tx:9.80 – ACIM
Whatever your perception of Jesus Christ is, is what you have accepted into your heart and mind about him. It matters not what it is except in the context of healing. In this context you must, at least, accept the idea that he exists, that he is real even though he is not in physical form.
Plus you must accept the fact that he does not dwell way off in the sky somewhere far removed geographically from you. He dwells with you wherever you are at this present moment. Without this acceptance the Course in Miracles means nothing. It’s just another spiritual book.
You must also accept the fact that it is he who is speaking and using the first person pronoun “I” in the above quote. Again, without this acceptance the quote means nothing. It’s just words copied from a book.
“When God created you, He made you part of Him.” …ACIM
Acceptance is one of humanity’s most difficult activities because we have been conditioned for millennia to accept lies and illusions. Therefore, it’s very easy to accept the idea of God and Jesus as father and son figures in bodies of form sitting way off in the sky somewhere completely separated from us. But just because it has been taught for eons of time and therefore easy to accept doesn’t make it so. Again wholehearted acceptance is required. You must accept that you are part of God or you must reject the teachings of the Course. There is no other choice here. If you can resist the ego’s opposition and accept that you are part of God then God is not separated from you and you are not separated from God.
“The fact that God is love does not require belief, but it does require acceptance.” …Tx:8.102-ACIM
God is one with Jesus Christ and Jesus is one with God and they Both are one with you and you are one with them. They are Love and so are you. There is no separation in Love. As Gary Zukav points out in the above image quote: Eventually, you will come to understand that Love heals everything, and Love is all there is. Healing will take place the moment you join your mind and heart together and allow Love to fill them both.
I’m going to close this post with a quote from Jesus as recorded in A Course in Miracles: “I will heal you merely because I have only one message, and it is true. Your faith in it will make you whole when you have faith in me.”
