A Brief Adventure

“Child of God, you are alien here but need not be alien to your Self. In your knowledge of your Self, all threat of time and space and place dissolves.” …ACOL

In all actuality that which we refer to as “time,” doesn’t exist. In other words, like everything else in this world, it’s an illusion. As Jesus put in in A Course in Miracles: “The thoughts of God are quite apart from time. For time is but another meaningless defense you made against the truth. Yet what God wills is here, and you remain as He created you.”

Every illusion serves the same purpose, which is, as Jesus implied in the above quote, to hide the truth, to cover it up, to cause you to believe it’s something other than it really is. This world as most see it teaches that life begins in the womb and ends at the grave, but like the world itself the teaching is an illusion. Which is why so many people can’t accept it and live their life in fear not knowing what to expect at its inevitable ending.

This physical experience was meant originally to be a brief mission of love and joy. A mission of joyful creation to create a world of happiness and joy based on Love. It was never meant to create a world at the mercy of the ravages imposed by time. As mentioned in the above quote, the thoughts of God are quite apart from time.

And you are a Thought of God held eternally in the universal and eternal Mind of Love. You are not a temporary physical body trying with all your might to remain in an illusionary world you have made to hide your separated little self.

“Who uses but Christ’s vision finds a peace so deep and quiet, undisturbable and wholly changeless that the world contains no counterpart.” …ACIM

When confronted by Christ’s vision illusions recede into the nothingness from which they came as a droplet of mist recedes before the power of the sun. Christ’s vision does not look with physical eyes, it sees with the blessed eyes of Love and looks upon illusions not at all. Which is how it bestows the blessedness of a peace so deep and quiet, undisturbable and wholly changeless that the world contains no counterpart.

The very moment you accepted the false idea of separation as being possible is the very moment the ego was born. The ego is nothing more than an attempt to create god in your own image, but it is nothing less either. It must never be underestimated for you have endowed it with all your own power.

The saving grace in this is your power is now based in separation, and therefore is the illusionary power of negativity and fear. This power is very destructive and rules your mind in a very dictatorial manner. As long as you continue to see the flesh so long will the ego rule your life with power derived from negativity and fear. But just one glance from Christ’s vision of Love and the ego with all its negativity and fear will fade into the nothingness from which it came.

The ego realizes that any contact with Love spells its end, therefore it is terrified by It. It has also convinced you that because of your separation from It you must fear Love’s wrath and judgement also. In so doing it has enticed you into a desperate attempt, fueled by fear, to hide from It. Following the ego’s urgings you made a hiding place which you call, your body, and believe it to be your home.

“The body is the ego’s home by its own election. It is the only identification with which the ego feels safe, because the body’s vulnerability is its own best argument that you cannot be of God.” …ACIM

Most humans identify with the ego and because of this identification see only the flesh. They not only see the body as their home but believe it to be who and what they are. How could this not lead to a life filled with dread and fear? To believe your reality is physical can lead nowhere else but down a road of darkness and fear, ending at the illusion we refer to as death.

How could beliefs such as this not turn the human experience, which was meant to be a brief adventure of Love, happiness and joy, into a nightmare of fear, uncertainty and dread?

“Recognize who you are and God’s light goes before you, illuminating every path and shining away the fog of dreams from which you waken undisturbed.” …ACOL

I once heard Abraham – that group of Spirit entities who transmit blocks of thought to Esther Hicks, who then translates them into physical language – describe what a belief is. I’m paraphrasing from memory and not directly quoting but their description of a belief was very close to this: A bunch of thoughts you keep thinking until it becomes true for you.

In A Course in Miracles Jesus says, “We have said that you cannot change your mind by changing your behavior, but we have also said, and many times before, that you can change your mind. It seems to me that to keep thinking a bunch of thoughts is a choice. As Jesus said, you can change your mind, which implies very strongly that it’s a choice.

Again from A Course in Miracles. When discussing the choice to either see the flesh or recognize the Spirit Jesus says: “On this one choice does all your world depend, for here have you established what you are, as flesh or Spirit in your own belief.”

In just this one choice to recognize the Spirit, or as the above ACOL quote puts it, recognize who you are, its possible to turn this physical experience we so erroneously refer to as life from, as Jesus describes it in A Course of Love,a long march toward death.” to a brief experience in a foreign land where, as A Course In Miracles tells us: “All Heaven bends to touch your eyes and bless your holy sight, that you may see the world of flesh no more except to heal and comfort and to bless.”

But with all that being said, there’s a bit more to be pointed out. When you’re ready to make this choice you must also make a commitment to change your source of thought. If you see the flesh then your source of thought is the mind, which is the home of the intellect and the ego. Thinking from this source alone will never allow you to go beyond logic, which will never see beyond the world of illusions where only the flesh is visible.

If you are one of those people who would like to turn this physical experience around to reflect its original purpose as a brief adventure in joyful creation then you must make the commitment to think from the true Source of thought. This means thinking from the heart, the home of Love and the dwelling place of God.

As much as practical you should consciously dedicate ALL your thoughts to unity. This will allow the mind and heat to begin joining together which will cause a state of Whole-Heartedness, which is the opposite of separation.

I’m going to close this post with a quote from A Course of Love: “Make a new choice! The choice that your heart yearns to make for you and that your mind is finding increasingly difficult to deny. When you choose unity over separation, you choose reality over illusion. You end opposition by choosing harmony. You end conflict by choosing peace.”

“Choose again! And let go your fear of what the truth will bring. What could be more insane than that which you now call sanity? What loss can there be in joining with what is so like yourself? It is only a small step away from where you currently stand, so helpless and alone.” …ACOL
