CHANGING THOUGHTS

“You also believe the body’s brain can think. If you but understood the nature of thought, you could but laugh at this insane idea. It is as if you thought you held the match that lights the sun and gives it all its warmth.” …ACIM

Most humans are taught to believe that the brain is the center of all thinking, and is the very center of life itself. They believe that the physical brain is the mind and the mind is the brain. The fact is, the mind is not in any way part of the brain and as Jesus said in the opening quote above the brain is to the mind about the same as a match is to the sun. Even this comparison is not completely accurate because a match does give off some warmth whereas the brain doesn’t think at all.

There is only one Mind in the universe and all other universes if there are any, for every universe in existence is contained within the One Universal Mind. You as a created being are a Divine Thought held eternally within this One Universal Mind. In other words, you are an Idea held within the Mind of God, for Ideas never leave their Source. As The Course tells us: “The Thought God holds of you is like a star, unchangeable in an eternal sky. So high in Heaven is it set that those outside of Heaven know not it is there. Yet still and white and lovely will it shine through all eternity. There was no time it was not there; no instant when its light grew dimmer or less perfect ever was.”

“…The original error—the choice to believe that you are separate despite the fact that this is not so and cannot ever be.” …Jesus, in A Course Of Love

This choice was the cause of the loss of memory of our identity. Such is the greatness of the Power of the mind that we have actually convinced ourselves that we have performed that which is impossible to do. But as Jesus informs us in A Course in Miracles: “Nothing at all has happened but that you have put yourself to sleep and dreamed a dream in which you were an alien to yourself and but a part of someone else’s dream.”

As has been mentioned before in many ways and many times everything in this world, which is based on perception, is a choice. The belief that you are separate from everyone and everything in the universe is a choice. According to the above quote it was this choice that constituted the original error, or as many call it, the fall from grace.

According to A Course in Miracles, “The power of decision is your one remaining freedom as a prisoner of this world.” Right now – this vey second – you can put this information to the test. You can decide to accept this information as factual or you can decide to see it as no more than nice words in a book.

“You see the flesh or recognize the Spirit. There is no compromise between the two. If one is real the other must be false, for what is real denies its opposite. There is no choice in vision but this one.” …Jesus, in A Course in Miracles

You can use your power of decision at any time and change your mind concerning what you believe about yourself. Actually, your mind is the only thing you can change. But that being said, it’s really the only thing that needs changing.

There are two voices continuously vying for your attention. One is the voice of your self-made companion and teacher, the ego. This voice shrieks and howls to the intellectual part of your mind and uses every argument, trick and illusion in its arsenal to plant the belief that there’s nothing beyond the flesh. Those who aren’t ready to think beyond the flesh usually listen to this voice and are led deeper and deeper along the journey into darkness.

The other is the Voice for God, which has been calling to you since time began. This Voice calls ever so softly to your heart from deep within your memory and gently urges you to remember the joy, peace and happiness of Love which you so erroneously believe you have separated yourself from.

He seems a sorry figure—weary, worn, in threadbare clothing, and with feet that bleed a little from the rocky road he walks.” …Jesus, in A Course In Miracles

The above can be considered a metaphorical description as to how those who have chosen to listen to the ego’s voice and its version of reality see themselves.

Even though God is forever with them, because of their own choice to believe the ego’s lies of separation they recognize Him not. And so they stagger and stumble along the illusionary rocky road of separation as it leads them deeper and deeper into darkness and fear.

“For you have learned of Christ there is another way for them to walk.” …ACIM

Christ, being your true Self, is the Voice for God that has been calling since time began to the eternal part of your mind, which is unrecognizable to the ego, the heart. Those who have developed ears to hear by choosing to listen have learned of another way to walk. They are those who have looked beyond the flesh and recognized the Spirit.

The flesh cannot be seen and the Spirit recognized simultaneously. It’s either one or the other but never both and it’s always a choice which one it is for you. And make no mistake for this is the most important choice you’ll ever make during this so-called lifetime. For the one you choose is the real one in your belief system. It becomes your reality.

As Jesus put it in A Course in Miracles: “What you decide in this determines all you see and think is real and hold as true. On this one choice does all your world depend, for here have you established what you are, as flesh or Spirit in your own belief.

“Identify with love, and you are home. Identify with love, and find your Self.” …ACIM

It has been mentioned many times and in many ways that this so-called life is built upon choices and decisions. To simply arise in the morning from a comfortable bed and face this world is a momentous decision in itself. For those who fail to recognize the Spirit it is even more so, for they must choose which illusion is true for them.

Until you make the decision to know your Self, or as the above quote puts it, identify with love, you will continue to walk the dark and rocky road of separation with all the Love in the universe locked away in your heart.

I’m going to close this post with a lengthy quote from A Course in Miracles: “Yet in his lonely, senseless wanderings, God’s gifts go with him, all unknown to him. He cannot lose them. But he will not look at what is given him. He wanders on, aware of the futility he sees about him everywhere, perceiving how his little lot but dwindles as he goes ahead to nowhere. Still he wanders on in misery and poverty, alone though God is with him, and a treasure his so great that everything the world contains is valueless before its magnitude.”

  1. Thank you for reminding me of the most important choice I can make. Either flesh or spirit. I choose spirit over flesh and ask God to lead me with His voice of love. Sometimes we are overcome with lessons this physical dimension puts before us and we struggle to go with God’s flow because our focus stumbles. I Pray God will give us the focus and strength we need to let our spirit rise above and overcome the ego. We need every loving reminder to build a steadfast belief of our true selves. SPIRIT IS WHO WE ARE. IT IS JUST A DREAM. WE WILL OVER COME AND LOVE WILL BRING US BACK TO OUR TRUE REALITY. God bless you for speaking to our spirit and encouraging us to stay focused. Thank you, your message is important to us all. We are all one with one voice leading us.
