“Those who speak of ‘a miracle of healing’ are combining two orders of reality inappropriately. Healing is not a miracle.” …ACIM
Any happenings that seem to be outside the box we humans have imagined we’re supposed to fit into are seen as incomprehensible or, in some instances, even miraculous. But let me pose a question or two for your consideration: Is being what you are a miracle; is being yourself a miracle; or should it simply be considered normal to be what you are, or to be yourself?
It seems to me that to accept even the possibility that we are created beings, created by a loving Creator, should rule out the idea of sickness for ourselves. Would not the power of reason tell us that a loving God could not create anything with the capacity to be sick? As the Course tells us: “To believe that a Son of God can be sick is to believe that part of God can suffer.”
To believe that part of God can suffer is such a preposterous idea that only those completely embedded in the illusions of physicality could even consider it. And then only because they see the flesh, and recognize the Spirit not at all. But just a quick glance around us wherever we may believe we are will reveal a world filled to the brim with misery, sickness and death. Which begs the question: What has gone wrong?
A Child of God
Whether it’s necessary or not, before we go any further I feel as if I need to clear something up as best I can. Even though it seems like it, the term Son of God as used in the Course is not Gender specific. It does not mean males only, but refers to every being God created regardless of gender as it’s perceived in this world.
The fact that the term Child of God is also used many times in the Course helps to bear this out. For example, it says: “You are a Child of God, a priceless part of His Kingdom, which He created as part of Him.”
“It is impossible for a Child of God to love his neighbor except as himself.” …ACIM
It’s not possible for you or me to lose any attribute our Creator bestowed upon us when He created us. But it is possible to expel it from our awareness. Not only is it possible, but that’s exactly what we have done. Therefore we have lost the awareness of our Power which our own Creator shared with us at our creation.
If God created us as part of Him does it not stand to reason that we possess, at least part, of the same Power He does? In my way of thinking it’s not only reasonable but an absolute fact – it can be no other way. And, I might add, I don’t think we possess a part of it, I believe we possess all of it. But to say, we possess all of it doesn’t mean we have it all and God has none. He has ALL of it and we have ALL of it. In other words, each part contains the whole and He is All there Is.
When I’m discussing this Power I’m not talking about magic or any other concept that the ego believes in or can accept. I’m talking about the one attribute that can be given away fully, but yet still kept. Its Source is an unending supply, therefore, the more of it you give away the more you have. I’m referring to the very thing we’re all searching for but don’t know what it is. It’s the one and only real Power in the universe; the only one in the realms of existence. I’m talking about LOVE.
“How do you spell ‘love’?” – Piglet “You don’t spell it… you feel it.” …
The silliest thing I could attempt to do would be to try and tell you how to recognize love. In the above quote, the famous British author, A.A. Milne, pointed out everything there is to know about the subject: You feel it.
In my last post I used this quote from the Course: “How can you know whether you chose the stairs to Heaven or the way to hell? Quite easily. How do you feel?” It seems the Course is in agreement with A. A. Milne on this, which is not surprising at all. For truth remains truth no matter who points it out.
Physician Heal Thyself
The title of this post is a phrase found in the Book of Luke in the Bible. I referenced it from memory as I was thinking about a subject to write about. As I’m using it in this post it doesn’t portray the same meaning as it does in the Bible. In the Bible Jesus referred to it as a parable and told his chiders that they would be using it against him.
A very simplistic view of the story is this: He was in the Temple in his home town of Nazareth after returning from Capernaum where he had healed many sick people. He read a verse of prophecy from the book of Isaiah, and then told them that it was fulfilled in him.
The religious elite of Nazareth, who knew of Jesus’ physical heritage, along with some of their followers couldn’t accept this. They couldn’t accept the idea that the son of a local carpenter was the Messiah and were chiding him into proving it. He then told them that they would soon be using the parable physician, heal thyself, against him and demanding he do the same works in his home town as they heard he had done in Capernaum.
Only Love can Heal
Actually it’s not possible to heal ourselves, but we can allow ourselves to be healed. The primary reason most don’t do so is they make the mistake of believing it’s the body that needs healing. As the Course points out: “The body cannot heal because it cannot make itself sick. It needs no healing.”
To believe the body is that which needs to be healed is to believe it is what you are, and it’s this belief which has caused the sickness in the first place. The belief that you are a body is the belief that you are separate from God, and therefore from Love. For Love is what God is.
The one and only thing in the entire universe that can heal anything is LOVE. And because you are a part of God, Who is Love, you are Love. Therefore, in this respect you are your own physician. Nothing negative can ever be in the presence of Love. All such conditions as sickness, disease, illness, misery, or fear cannot but melt away as they approach the beauty and light of Love – that which you are.
The Only Healing that will ever be needed
In reference to “man,” the Course says: “A sense of separation from God is the only lack he really needs to correct.” It’s this sense of separation from God that has caused, is causing and will continue to cause every negative condition ever known to man. There are just two sources of emotions in the universe. There is Love (God) and there is fear (ego), and you’re deriving your feelings from either one or the other.
The question, what is the purpose of life? Has been asked by nearly every mind that has ever perceived itself as living on this earth. There’s one thing humans are not interested in and that is the simple and uncomplicated answers. The answer to the question is, HAPPINESS and JOY, but that’s too simple and uncomplicated and therefore, ignored.
You were created by and from pure Love as an expression of Itself for the purpose of expressing Itself. And you will never have any other purpose. The closer you can adhere to this purpose the happier and more joyful you will be. You will know how you’re doing by the way you feel.
I’m going to close this post with a quote from A Course in Miracles: “God wills you perfect happiness now. Is it possible that this is not also your will? And is it possible that this is not also the will of your brothers?”
