Aging Without Concern

“Is it not madness to think of life as being born, aging, losing vitality, and dying in the end?”      …ACIM

There’s a decision that every one of us must make; there’s no getting away from it; eventually everyone will make it. I have mentioned it numerous times throughout these posts. Sooner or later everyone must decide whether they’re temporary physical entities living in bodies of flesh, or whether they’re Spiritual beings.

Anyone with a desire to raise the quality of this physical experience should not underestimate the power contained in this decision. Nor should that person underestimate the importance of it. Therefore, it might as well be made sooner rather than later. For in this one decision lies the direction your physical experience will take.

It will either point you toward Heaven and your Reality, or away from Heaven toward illusions and hell. There is no other real choice to make. Oh, there’s lots of choices, but all except this one are between illusions; one may be better than the other, but it’s still an illusion.  As The Course tells us: “On this one choice does all your world depend, for here have you established what you are, as flesh or Spirit in your own belief.”

“Man is free to believe what he chooses, and what he does attests to what he believes.”   …ACIM

Once the choice is made to accept that you are Spirit, it will gradually settle itself into your belief system until you can see no other alternative. But this choice usually doesn’t change your experiences instantly. It’s a radical change that takes awhile before your mind can accept the fullness of it, and receive its benefits. But that being said, you have made the decision, and therefore light will begin immediately to replace the darkness of this dense physical environment.

As this light shines itself into the darkness it will begin to show you the eternal nature of everything God created. You’ll see that all life is eternal and God is its eternal Source. Therefore it could not possibly have any relationship to birth, old age, suffering, sickness and death. These things are the opposites of life, and cannot exist where life is.

If and when we can reach that point where we accept that all life is an eternal creation of God, then the meaning behind the question contained in my opening quote becomes obvious. If God is the Source of life – and He is – then would it not be akin to madness to think that somehow it could be wrenched from Him and cease to exist?

“Do you not see that all your misery comes from the strange belief that you are powerless?”   …ACIM

Those who perceive themselves as physical beings living in a flesh body cannot but see themselves as weak, miserable, and vulnerable to whatever the world sends their way. And what does the world have to offer except birth, old age, sickness and death in the end?

Please don’t misunderstand me. I realize that there are many things in this world that bring a temporary sense of happiness. But that’s the key; isn’t it? It’s all temporary. Regardless of a person’s status in this physical experience, there’s no future except what is fondly called, the Golden years.  But even this short period is, more often than not, beset with worry, pain, sickness, fear and all the other worldly gifts, including death in the end.

Even though powerlessness is accepted by the majority as a necessary attribute of this so-called, life, the above quote calls it a strange belief. And this should come as no surprise when you realize that the majority of people believe that what God created is absolutely bereft of power; is that not a strange belief?

The Creator of infinity created you like Himself.

As you can see, this quote leaves no doubt that God created us to be just like Him. The Course, referring to itself, also tells us that, it will be believed entirely or not at all. That doesn’t leave any room for compromise; it’s all or nothing, and as with everything in this world, it’s a choice. I have been one of its students for nearly seven years, and believe it to be the ultimate in spiritual teachings. Therefore I have decided to believe it in its entirety, which includes the teaching that God created us to be just like Him. That belief requires me to ask this question as I think about it; how could we be powerless if God created us like Himself?

“Death is the central dream from which all illusions stem.”   …ACIM

Most people are afraid of old age, and that’s because they’re really afraid of losing vitality, and dying in the end, as mentioned in my opening quote. They’re afraid because they’ve been taught since birth, and have accepted, that death is life’s inevitable end.

Why am I even writing about this morbid subject; you may ask? The answer is; until we can learn and accept the truth that death does not exist, we won’t be able to move through the aging part of this dream as gracefully and joyfully as we should. My hope is, I may help some realize the falsity of the teaching that life can die. And that they will allow the Light of understanding to enter their minds and shine it away.

But that being said, I realize that it’s not an easy undertaking while we think we’re living in this physical world, to convince ourselves that death doesn’t exist. It’s the most convincing illusion that humans have to deal with. Everywhere we look it seems as though it’s there. This is so because most humans have convinced themselves that life is born to die – even though it’s an impossibility!

“There is no death because what God created shares His Life.”   ..ACIM

It’s time to take a closer look at my opening quote, for there’s a truth contained in it that may have gone unnoticed by some. You’ll notice that its subject is life, and not physical bodies. So what does this mean concerning the subject of this post? It means that you are that by which God created you – life. It means that you do not have a life, but that you ARE life. You share the same Life that God does.

God did not create anything  that is not just like Him. He did not create bodies; He created Spiritual Beings, and that’s  what you are and that’s what you’ll always be.  You will always be as He created you; deathless, timeless, limitless, all-powerful, and free of any and all negative attributes throughout eternity. Your reality is Life, Love and Joy – that’s what you are! There is no other purpose to life than finding and expressing joy – that’s it.

Your Mind Is The Only Thing You Can Change

We hear a lot of talk about changing our life, but Life can never be changed. The one and only thing that can ever be changed, or needs to change, is your own mind. But that being said, it’s also true that changing your mind will change your experiences in this world. If and when you decide to change your mind, there’s only one change that can be made. And that is to change the thought system from which you think.

There are two complete systems of thought from which everyone receives impulses to think. One is the ego’s thought system, which is made up of illusions, and therefore produces thoughts that are not real. These are the thoughts that trigger fear, depression, sickness and every other negative attribute that this physical experience contains, including death.

The other one is God’s Thought System, which is the only real one, and it is from this one your real thoughts are derived. These thoughts are made up of Love, happiness, health, and every other good and positive attribute that Life contains. This system never provides fearful or negative thought impulses – It gives nothing but happiness and joy.

In my opening paragraph I mentioned a decision that eventually everyone must make. It’s the decision as to what you believe you are. You either believe that you’re a physical being living for a short time in a physical body. Or you believe you’re a Spiritual creation living in eternity. And you can always tell which decision you’ve made by which of the above mentioned attributes you feel.

I’m going to close this post with a quote from the influential teacher, and author, Neville Goddard. He said, “You are free to choose the concept you will accept of yourself. Therefore, you possess the power of intervention, the power which enables you to alter the course of your future.”
